BMO PDF Suite for Mac is a desktop PDF viewer and editor designed for everyday document work. With a clean, modern interface and light and dark themes, BMO brings reading, editing, annotation, and document management together in one place.
View & Navigate — Open multiple PDFs in tabs, zoom to fit the page or width, jump directly to a page, and search documents with highlighted results. Page thumbnails and an outline sidebar make long documents easier to navigate.
Annotate & Mark Up — Highlight text, add sticky notes, sketch freehand, insert shapes, and apply professional-looking stamps. Review and adjust your markups before saving.
Edit & Organize — Merge files, split documents, reorder pages using thumbnails, and rotate or crop pages. Add watermarks, headers, footers, and sequential Bates numbers to organize professional and legal documents.
OCR & Read Aloud — Turn scanned pages into searchable PDFs using built-in English OCR. Download additional OCR languages when needed, or listen to documents using macOS speech voices.
Security & Document Protection — Password-protect PDFs, permanently redact selected content, digitally sign documents using your digital ID, and sanitize hidden information before sharing. An audit log records document actions.
Built for professionals working with PDFs in legal, finance, healthcare, and other document-heavy environments, BMO combines practical document tools with familiar Mac window controls and Command keyboard shortcuts.
Installation & First Launch
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile. - Drag BMO into the Applications folder.
- Eject the disk image, then open BMO from Applications.
The current build has not been notarized by Apple. On first launch, macOS may display a warning stating that Apple could not verify BMO is free of malware. If you trust the source of your download, follow these steps:
- Dismiss the warning by clicking Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Security section.
- Click Open Anyway for BMO.
- Authenticate if prompted, then click Open.
macOS saves this approval for that copy of the app.

Local PDF editing and English OCR work offline.
Optional features have additional requirements:
- LibreOffice: Required for Excel, PowerPoint, and legacy Word imports; optional for higher-fidelity DOCX import. Basic DOCX import is included.
- Java and veraPDF: Required for PDF/A and PDF/UA standards validation.
- Scanning: Requires a scanner or device supported by macOS Image Capture.
- Read Aloud: Requires an installed macOS speech voice.
- Protected recovery: Requires access to BMO’s recovery key in the macOS login Keychain.
